Hardware FAQ
Do I need hardware to use Fitbord?+
No. The Starter package is software-only. Members check in from their phone or staff check them in at the front desk. Hardware is optional for spaces that want independent headcount or door access control.
How does hardware connect to Fitbord?+
Each space gets an API key. Hardware or our edge gateway sends HTTPS requests to Fitbord — entry counts to the entry-counts endpoint and identified check-ins to the attendances endpoint. Setup is included with hardware packages.
What if my internet or power goes out?+
4G sensors and access terminals store events locally and replay them when connectivity returns. We recommend a UPS for terminals in areas with frequent power cuts. Fitbord deduplicates events so offline replay never double-counts.
Can I start small and upgrade later?+
Yes. Many spaces start with Starter or Kiosk, then add a headcount sensor or access terminal once they see the value. Your Fitbord space and member data stay the same — only the hardware layer changes.
Which check-in method should I choose?+
QR on phone works for most spaces with a staffed or semi-staffed reception. NFC cards suit high-volume 24/7 gyms where members want a quick tap. Staff-assisted is always available as a fallback. Secure and Control packages support all three.
